USD equivalents use planning FX assumptions dated 4 September 2026; these are not live market quotes. Refine personal assumptions in the calculator above.

At a $100,000 gross equivalent, the model leaves about $4,168 more after modelled employee deductions in United Kingdom. That difference reflects the stored resident-employee scenarios; it is not a cost-of-living or job-market conclusion.

Between $20,000 and $500,000 gross, the same country leaves more take-home at every level tested, so the ranking does not flip with salary under the default assumptions.

Two models, two sets of exclusions

United Kingdom model

Income Tax and employee Class 1 National Insurance for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

  • Personal Allowance tapers by £1 for every £2 above £100,000.
  • Scotland has separate bands and is available as a region option in the calculator.

France model

Income tax for one fiscal share plus common employee social deductions.

  • Household quotient and tax credits can materially change the result.
  • Social contributions vary by payroll line and sector.

What the difference does—and does not—mean

At an equivalent gross amount, the comparison isolates the effect of the two modelled tax systems. It does not claim that the same role commands the same exchange-rate salary in both countries.

To compare real offers, enter different local salaries and monthly budgets above. Rent, healthcare and schooling may outweigh a difference in tax. These budgets are your assumptions, not measured national purchasing-power indices.
